Handprint Gift for Grandparents

I just realized that this weekend in National Grandparent’s Day and I figured it was too late to get up a blog post with a homemade gift idea.  Silly me…  I was sitting in my living room, looking at the wall where I have my grand children’s picture hung, when I realized this was a perfect idea for National Grandparent’s Day gift. No, it’s not the picture of my 4 amazing babies, but the canvas next to it that my son and grandson gave me.

Handprint Grandparent’s Day Gift

My daughter-in-law saw something similar on Pinterest and it was all her idea to make this amazing gift for me. While it was not a Grandparent’s Day gift, it would be perfect for that occasion

All you need to make one of these is a 12-Inch x 16-Inch Stretched Canvas (affiliate link), some paint, a paint brush, and stencils to help with the writing if desired.

Paint the palm of the child’s left hand and carefully press it near the bottom, left corner of the stretched canvas. For a young child (infant or toddler) you might want to spread the paint onto a paper plate and press the child’s hand onto the paint.  Once the child’s handprint is made, paint the adult’s hand and press that near the top, left hand side of the canvas.

Once the handprints are dry, you can use stencils or just a paint brush to write the special message.  Instead of using the words mom and grandma like in this picture, you could use the words dad and grandpa.  Better yet, you could do something like this:

The only thing better than having you as my parents,
Is my child having you as his (her) grandparents.

I can promise you that any grandparent would love to get this lovely keepsake as a Grandparent’s Day gift!
