I think it is safe to say most people have played Monopoly board game (affiliate link); after all, it is been around for almost 80 years. I know I have many fond memories of friends and family gathering around and competing for choice pieces of real estate… While I know Boardwalk would probably top most people’s list of properties to by, but I always preferred the railroads and the green properties (Pacific Avenue, North Carolina Avenue, and Pennsylvania Avenue).
This My Monopoly Game (affiliate link) from Hasbro is the classic game we all know and love, but with a new twist. Your family, your friends, and you can easily become part of the game. This version of Monopoly comes with sticker sheets and sticker slides. You can use these to personalize the game tokens, the game board, and even some of the Chance and Community Chest cards.
You use either the My Monopoly App or the Web site (www.mymonopoly.com) to gather together your favorite photos. They provide you with a template you can insert your photos into and then print them onto the sticker sheets. I found the web site very user friendly. It was easy to upload photos (you can grab photos from your computer, Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, or Shutterfly). You then simply drag and drop the photos onto the sticker sheet template and edit them. You can even add text to the photos.
Once printed, you can use the stickers to customize the game! Transfer the stickers from the sheet to the blank tiles included in the box. You can then slip the tiles into the slots provided on the 22 street spots on the board. You can also slip 4 of them into the tokens provided (the tokens include in this game are the race car, the scotty dog, a ship, and a cat). These tiles can be removed and changed around however you like. You will also notice that there are dotted outlines on 4 of the Chance cards and 12 of the Community Chest cards. You can also add photo stickers to those cards.
If you want to change up the stickers, you can easily do so since the game comes with 4 sticker sheets and there are 30 stickers on each sheet. When I created an account at MyMonopoly.com, I noticed they mentioned that replacement sticker sheets are available if you need them. I went in search for how to purchase these and found nothing. I emailed the folks at Hasbro and got a fast reply and an offer to send me some for free. Talk about great service!
My Monopoly is played the exact same way as the Monopoly we all know and love. The main difference, of course, is that game board and pieces are filled with lovely photos. Another difference is that the original monopoly game has 8 game tokens and this one has 4. I wouldn’t let this stop me from letting more people play. You can always make your own photo-holding markers using whatever you like, such as homemade clay.
I think this game should be a staple in every families game cupboard! Not only can you make fun memories by playing this game, you can reminisce about past memories while you look at the photos that are now part of the game. As an added perk, the game I got contained a certificate for $10 off at Shutterfly so you can use your favorite photos into fun gifts, cards, calendars, and much more.
