This book will certainly inspire you to craft and get playful with your kids. Author, Merrilee Liddiard, has packed Playful: Fun Projects to Make With + For Kids(affiliate link) with 26 fun and unique projects the entire family will enjoy. Some of the projects you find in this book are perfect to use for family craft time and others are great to make for the kids.
Besides a brief introduction from Merrilee Liddiard at the beginning of this book and the collection of templates and resources at the end of this book, you will find over 100 pages of craft projects. Along with the step-by-step directions to make the crafts, you will find amazing illustrations and stunning photographs.
The crafts in this book are divided into 5 different categories: Playful Paper Crafts, Playful Dress Up, Playful Toys, Playful Art, and Playful Repurpose. Of course, since I love crafts that involve recycling, I flipped to that section first.
This section had me wanting to put this review aside and go dig through my recycling bin! The first project is a duct tape and cardboard brownstone. These are spectacular and will rival any expensive dollhouse if you ask me. If you have a little guy who might not be interested in the brownstone, you can use duct tape and cracker boxes to build trucks. In this chapter, you will also find directions for making a colorful portfolio and an incredible bird costume.
The other sections in this book are also filled with wonderfully unique projects. The first category in this book is titled Playful Paper Crafts. This category teaches how to make over-sized paper animal puppets fit for a parade, a collection of colorful paper plate masks, a floral crown, and a tiger pinata.
In the section titled Playful Dress-up, you can learn how to make all of the accessories needed to turn your little ones into knights and fair maidens. Playful Toys will have you creating dolls, blocks, puzzles, and other fun things to play with. Finally, Playful Art shares not only great art projects but also items you can craft to hold your art supplies.
I am happy to add this marvelous book to my crafting bookshelf, how about you?
