You can make one or more of these fun button shamrocks to decorate your home, classroom, or self for St. Patrick’s Day. While I glued magnets to the back of the clothespin stem, you can glue a dowel to the back and poke it into a plant or clip it onto a chain to wear as a necklace!

One thing is for sure, no matter how you use it, it will give a whimsical Irish flair to whatever it adorns.

Supplies Needed to Make a Button Shamrock Craft:

• Spring-style clothespin
• Green paint
• 3 large, green buttons
• Hot glue sticks
• Magnets

Tools Needed:

• Paint brush
• Hot glue gun

The first thing you need to do is paint your clothespin. While I used green paint, you can certainly use whatever color you like. How about making several, painting each one a different color from the rainbow! No matter what color (or colors) you choose, paint all parts of the clothespin and then let the paint dry.

When the clothespin paint is dry, glue one of the buttons onto the top (pinching side) of the clothespin using the hot glue stick and glue gun.

Now, gluing on the other two buttons can be a little bit tricky. This is mainly because only a small area of the button will touch the clothespin. The trick is finding something else that the buttons can sit on — the obvious choice was to grab a couple more clothespins.

I set those clothespins on either side on the painted one. I then squeezed a generous amount of hot glue onto the edge of one of the buttons and gently pressed it in place. Do the same with the last button. Let the glue cool. You might want to then flip it over and add some extra glue just to secure them.

Finally, flip your shamrock over and glue a few magnets to the back. You want to make sure the magnets will be strong enough to hold the shamrock in place once you clip something onto it.

As I mentioned previously, you don’t have to add magnets. You can use it as a clip as it is or you can glue it to a dowel or just about anything else. You can even wear this shamrock! Clip it onto a string or chain or even glue a pin to it.
