If you are looking for a fun and easy way to dress up your windows for Halloween, gather the family together to make these colorful Halloween suncatcher collages. You can make a ghost or a pumpkin like I did, or any other Halloween creature using a variety of craft supplies and household items. The basic supplies you need are the same, just the color of the items will vary depending on what you are making.
Supplies Needed to Make a Suncatcher Collage:
- Clear Con-Tact Paper
- Paper
- Pen or Pencil
- Scissors
- Collage Materials (see ideas below)
The first thing you need to do is decide what kind of suncatcher you want to make.  You want something that is primarily one color. Of course, a pumpkin and ghost works well, but you can also make a bat, skull, black, cat, spider, or a witch’s hat.
Dig through your craft cupboards and kitchen cupboards to find colored items to use in your collage. For a pumpkin, you will want a variety of orange items. For a ghost, collect white items. The color you will need will depend on the design you choose.
Here are some items you can use. Don’t let this list limit you though, use whatever you like:
- Tissue paper
- Sequins
- Yarn
- Feathers
- Fabric Pieces
- Buttons
- Small Pom-poms
- Ribbon
- Glitter
- Lace
- Felt
- Rick-Rack
Use the paper to draw out your Halloween design or you can find a pattern. Coloring book pages make wonderful patterns. You can download the ones I used and find many more in this collection: Halloween Coloring Pages.
Once you have your pattern, cut two pieces of clear Con-Tact paper that are a little bigger than your pattern. Trace your pattern onto the paper side of the Con-Tact paper. Cut out one of the Con-tact paper patterns and set the other one aside.
Peel the paper backing off of the pattern you cut out and lay it, sticky side up, on your work surface. It is helpful to roll a couple piece of masking tape and place them between your Con-Tact paper and your tabletop to hold it in place.
Now you can decorate your design. Start out by making any facial features. Cut contrasting pieces of felt, fabric, or tissue paper to the desired shapes and stick them in place. Once those pieces are in place, use your colored items to fill in the rest of the pattern. If you are using tissue paper, fabric, etc, cut then into smaller pieces.
Once your design is filled in, list it off the table and remove the masking tape. Trim any items that hang over the edge of your design.
Grab  your other Con-tact paper pattern. You will now want to cut it out; however, cut this one about an inch large on all sides than the pattern you traced. You want this one to be bigger than the one that you decorated.
Lay the larger design, sticky side up, on your work surface. Carefully center the decorate design on top of it so that all of the embellishments are sandwiched between the Con-Tact paper.
You can now stick your suncatcher right to the window! The sticky edges of the larger design pieces should stick right to the window.
I hope your family enjoys this fast and easy Halloween craft. If you can think of any other colored items to use in this collage, please feel free to share them in the comments!
