Next time you find yourself with bagels that are past their prime, don’t throw them away! Save them and create a couple of fast and easy bird feeders using them. You can also use these same techniques using almost any other baked goods. This is easy enough for all ages and will take less than 30 minutes to make!
Supplies Needed to Make a Bird Feeder Using a Bagel:
- 1/2 of a Bagel
- String or Yarn
- Bird Seed
- Peanut Butter
Tools Needed:
- Scissors
- Shallow Dish
- Butter Knife or Plastic Knife
You only need half a bagel to make one of these bird feeders so you can either make 2 or eat half of one for a snack.
Cut a piece of string or yarn 2 to 3 feet long. It is better to have it a little longer than you need it. Tie one end of the string around half of the bagel.
Pour a generous amount of bird seed into a shallow dish. Set it aside for the time being.
Use a butter knife, or even a plastic knife, to spread peanut butter all over the bagel half. Spread it on both sides if you can.
Once the bagel is covered with peanut butter, press it into the bird seed you poured in the shallow dish. Cover all of the peanut butter with bird seed. Now you can tie the other end of the string around a tree branch and watch the birds enjoy their treat! It doesn’t get mush faster or easier than that!
