Jumbo Clothespin Magnet

Jumbo Clothespin Magnet Craft

I wish I could say I made this refrigerator magnet clip to help organize my life; but, honestly, I just really wanted to make something out of the cool, jumbo-sized clothespin I couldn’t resist buying on my last trip to the craft store. When I bought it, I had no idea what I was going to do with it; but once I was home and in my craft room, it didn’t take me long to come up with something.

Whether you want an excuse to craft with an over-sized clothespin or you need something to help you stay organized, I suggest you make your own refrigerator magnet out of it. This project not only fast and easy, it can be customized with any message. This colorful clip would also make a great gift.

Supplies Needed to Make an Jumbo Clothespin Magnet:

  • One jumbo clothespin
  • Decorative Paper
  • Wooden or Craft Foam Letters
  • Magnet Strip
  • Craft Glue

Tools Needed:

  • Pen or Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Foam Brush

As I mentioned before, I just couldn’t resist buying a jumbo clothespin when I saw it on the shelf at the craft store. If you can’t find one, or if you can’t make it to the craft store, you can always find one online, like this one I found on Amazon — Wooden Clothespin (affiliate link).

Trace paper onto paper clip

The first thing you need to do is trim down your decorative paper to fit the size of your jumbo clothespin. To do this, I simply set the clothespin on top of the paper and traced around it. Once you have it trace, you can cut it out.

Glue paper to clothespin

Squirt some glue onto one side of the clothespin. Use a foam brush to spread it out and then set the decorative paper on top of it. Set this aside to dry.

Pick out the letters you need for whatever message you want to write. Of course, the size of your letters might help determine what you can write. Whatever the message is, it need to fit on the clothespin. The letters I used were wooden and about an inch tall. Similar to these I found on Amazon — Wooden Letters (affiliate link). I painted mine red using acrylic paint.

Glue letters on Clothespin

Glue the letters on the papered side of the jumbo clothespin. You might want to experiment with the positioning of the letters before you add the glue.

Now all that is left to do is to glue on the magnet.

Glue magnet on clothespin

Use a generous amount of glue to attach the magnet to the back of the decorated clothespin. Make sure your magnet is large enough to hold up the clothespin plus whatever you want to put in the clip.

Let the glue dry completely, and then you can hang your jumbo clothespin magnet on your refrigerator, in a locker at school, or on a magnetic surface in your office.
