Take a look around my blog and you will certainly realize the fact that I love kid’s crafts. I love crafting with kids and even making the crafts myself. As a lover of kid’s crafts, I was excited to check out this Martha Stewart’s Favorite Crafts for Kids book (affiliate link). After all, Martha Stewart is one of the biggest DIY icons of all times. Because of that, I had high expectations for this book and it certainly did not let me down.
This book is subtitled 175 Projects for Kids of All Ages to Create, Build, Design, Explore, and Share. That is enough craft projects to keep every member of the family occupied and entertained for quite a long time. For the most part, very little preparation is required to make the crafts; and you probably already have the items needed, basic supplies and recycled household items, on hand.
The crafts in this book are broken down into seven different sections. Â Here are the names of the chapters along with a sampling of the projects you will find in each one:
Create a Few Characters – Learn how to make Origami Finger Puppets, Pipe Cleaner Pals, Balloon Animals, Clothespin Characters, Eggs-Traordinary Creatures, Felted Finger Puppets, Hand-Drawn Stuffed Animals, Candy Monsters, Pinecone Penguins, and much more.
Build a Little World – Learn how to make Snow Globes, a stick village, Toy Boats, House of Cards, Toy Service Station, Miniature Ski Scene, and more.
Make Your Own Fun – Make a variety of musical instruments, crafty cars, a peg board marble run, paper fortune tellers, different games to play, dolls, a pretend marketplace, and much more
Design it Yourself – Have fun painting an umbrella, stenciling a backpack, making accessories out of duct tape, creating purses and totes, crafting unique jewelry, make Super Hero Costumes, dress up your tennis shoes and flip flops, and much more.
Experiment and Explore – Create Monster Salt Crystals, Water Fireworks, Glass Jar Xylophone, Giant Bubble Wand, a watcher station, a solar system in your bedroom, Pressed Leaves, a Safari Terrarium, and more.
Keep it Together – Learn how to construct Accordion Boxes, Miniature Scrapbooks, Travel Keepsakes, Travel Tins, Treasure Chest, Memory Jars, School Work Scrapbook, Cereal Box Organizers, Tack-Free Bulletin Board, Pocket Books, Tiny Trinket Boxes, Portable Cubby, Coin Counters, Bottle Piggy Banks, and a Leaf Alphabet.
Give Something Handmade – The great gift ideas here include Cross-Stitch Family Portraits, Iron-On Transfer Totes, Monogrammed Tote, Candy Wrappers, Button Bobby Pins, and much more – including some season and holiday projects.
Each project includes detailed directions, wonderful pictures, and illustrations when needed. Some projects are more complicated and take a couple of pages to explain, but many are so easy they take less than a page! Also included in this book is a section explaining and picturing different tools and materials used throughout it along with a section featuring the templates and patterns you need.
Of course, I just had to try one of the crafts in this book… Here is a little monkey I made the directions included in the section for Pipe Cleaner Pals. He was so easy to make and is so sweet. Don’t you think?
Not only are this book’s crafts fun and unique, most serve a practical purpose. Many of the finished crafts can be worn, used for decoration, played with, or given as gifts. More important than that, doing these crafts together as a family will make great memories!
