This project is one of the first things that popped into my mind when I was trying to think of things to make using an empty Clorox disinfecting wipes container for the current craft challenge.
I needed somewhere to store my plastic shopping bags and this container seemed like the perfect solution. I just needed to figure out how to fancy it up a bit. I decided to dig through my fabric scraps and was happy with what I came up with. What do you think of it?
Make sure you send me your ideas for what I should make using one of these containers!
Supplies Needed to Make a Recycled Plastic Bag Holder:
- Empty Clorox Wipes Container
- Fabric
- Mod Podge
Tools Needed:
- Rotary Cutter
- Cutting Mat
- Ruler
- Foam Brush
The first thing you need to do is remove the label from the container. If you can’t get it completely off, don’t worry too much. You will be covering it up. Wash the container and dry it well.
Measure the height of the container and also around the container. Cut a piece of fabric to that size plus add an inch to the circumference measurement of the container. I used a rotary cutter, ruler, and a mat to cut my fabric, but you can use a pair of scissors if you want. If your fabric has a directional design, like mine did, keep that in mind as you cut it.
Remove the cover from the Clorox disinfecting wipes container and set it aside. Use a foam brush to spread a layer of Mod Podge all over the outside of the container. Cover all of the container except the bottom and the threads around the top where the cover will snap back on.
Wrap the fabric around the container, carefully pressing it onto the Mod Podge and working out any air bubbles. The ends of the fabric should overlap about an inch. You may have to brush a little glue onto the fabric where the two ends overlap. Once you have the fabric in place, brush another layer of Mod Podge over the fabric.
Let the Mod Podge dry. I would suggest adding one more layer of Mod Podge, but you certainly don’t have to if you don’t want to. Once the Mod Podge is dry, you can snap the lid back on and fill the container with plastic bags. You can use it to hold other items too… How about filling it with cotton balls and displaying it on a bathroom shelf or using it to keep rags nearby but out of site.
What would you use this container for?
